Have You Ever Wondered What Microneedling Actually Does to Your Skin
Microneedling uses a pen device with very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in your skin. That sounds more intense than it is. The channels are tiny, and your body responds to them the way it responds to any small injury: it sends collagen and elastin to repair the area. The difference is that these injuries are deliberate, precise, and distributed exactly where your skin needs the most help.
The result is real structural improvement.
Pores tighten. Scars soften. Texture evens out. Fine lines smooth over. And because the change comes from your own healing response, not from a product sitting on top of your skin, the results build over a series of sessions and continue to develop for weeks after each treatment.
I offer three levels of microneedling at Contour Medical, because not everyone needs the same thing. Standard microneedling is the foundation. PDRN microneedling adds a polynucleotide serum that accelerates healing and hydration. And the Vampire Facial uses your own platelet-rich plasma for the most intensive collagen stimulation. Which one makes sense for you depends on your skin, your concerns, and where you're starting from.
Who Benefits The Most From Microneedling
You've been dealing with acne scars for years. They're left over from your teens or twenties, and no amount of retinol or vitamin C has made a meaningful difference. Microneedling gets into the scar tissue itself and triggers your skin to remodel it from underneath. It takes a series of treatments, but the improvement is real and lasting.
Your skin texture changed and you're not sure when. Pores look larger. Your skin doesn't reflect light the way it used to. Foundation sits differently. These are signs that collagen production has slowed down, and microneedling is one of the most effective ways to kick it back into gear.
You want to maintain good skin, not wait until something needs fixing. Microneedling works as a maintenance treatment. Regular sessions keep collagen production active, which means your skin stays firmer and smoother over time instead of gradually losing ground.
You've had a bad experience with lasers. Microneedling works across all skin tones, including darker complexions where certain laser treatments carry a risk of hyperpigmentation. If you've been told a laser isn't right for your skin, microneedling may be the alternative you've been looking for.

This is the foundation treatment. A topical serum is applied while I work, and the micro-channels allow it to absorb far deeper than it would on its own. Standard microneedling is the right starting point for general skin rejuvenation, mild texture concerns, enlarged pores, and maintenance between more intensive treatments.
If you're new to microneedling, this is usually where I recommend starting so we can see how your skin responds before deciding whether to add anything.

This is the same microneedling process with a polynucleotide serum added during treatment. PDRN is derived from salmon DNA and it accelerates your skin's repair process, boosts hydration at a cellular level, and stimulates extra collagen production beyond what standard microneedling achieves on its own.
PDRN microneedling is a good fit if you want more intensive results, if your skin tends to be on the drier side, or if you're looking for visible improvement in fewer sessions. It is a newer treatment that not many clinics in the Niagara region offer yet.

The Vampire Facial combines microneedling with your own Platelet-Rich Plasma. I draw a small amount of blood, spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the growth factors, and then apply the PRP during your microneedling session. Your skin gets the benefit of your own concentrated healing biology delivered directly where it needs to go.
This is the most intensive option and the one I recommend for deeper acne scarring, significant texture concerns, or clients who want to use their own growth factors rather than a topical product.

This can be added to any microneedling session. It is a cocktail of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and peptides that gets delivered into your skin through the micro-channels created during treatment. The effect is an extra layer of hydration and glow that you notice immediately and that deepens over the following days.
Your Microneedling Options at Contour Medical
What to Expect From Your Microneedling Appointment
01. Before Your Treatment
I apply a numbing cream and let it sit for about 30 to 40 minutes. By the time I start, most of the sensation is reduced to mild pressure or a light scratching feeling. Most clients find it much more comfortable than they expected.
02. During Your Treatment
The microneedling itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the area we're covering. If you're having a Vampire Facial, the blood draw and PRP preparation happen while the numbing cream is working, so it doesn't add much extra time.
03. Right After Your Treatment
Your skin will look red, similar to a mild sunburn. That fades within 24 to 48 hours for most people. Some clients experience light peeling around day two or three, which is normal and means the old surface layer is turning over.
04. Microneedling Results Timeline
You will notice improvement after your first session, but the real results build over a series. Most clients see meaningful change after three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. For deeper acne scarring, four to six sessions may be needed. Collagen continues to develop for several weeks after each treatment, so the skin you see at week six is better than the skin you see at week one.
05. Microneedling Aftercare.
Keep your skincare gentle for 48 to 72 hours after treatment. That means no retinol, no vitamin C, no exfoliating acids. Wear SPF every day. Your skin is more receptive to products after microneedling, which is good for hydrating serums but not good for anything harsh.
How Much Does Microneedling Cost in Niagara?
Microneedling cost depends on which option you choose (standard, PDRN, or Vampire Facial), whether you add the mesotherapy booster, and whether you're doing a single session or a package series. In the Niagara Region, you can expect to pay anywhere from $300 - $500+ depending on the clinic.
I will walk you through the pricing during your consultation so you know exactly what each option costs before you decide but expect to pay
Most clients do a series of three to four sessions for the best results. Package pricing is available and I will let you know the per-session cost for both single treatments and packages so you can compare
Your face is not the place to bargain hunt. But it's also not the place to overpay for a brand name when what actually matters is the person holding the equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling
-
Numbing cream is applied 30 to 40 minutes before treatment. Most clients describe the sensation during treatment as mild pressure or a light scratching, not pain. If you are nervous about it, that is completely normal, and I will walk you through everything before we start.
-
Most clients see meaningful improvement after three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Deeper concerns like acne scars or significant texture issues may benefit from four to six sessions. After your initial series, occasional maintenance sessions can help preserve results.

Standard microneedling uses a topical serum during treatment. The Vampire Facial uses your own Platelet-Rich Plasma, which contains concentrated growth factors from your blood. The PRP delivers a more intensive healing and collagen response, making it better suited for deeper scars and more significant texture concerns.
-
Wait at least 24 hours before applying anything other than the gentle skincare I recommend post-treatment. Your skin has thousands of open micro-channels immediately after the session, and putting makeup or active products on top of them can cause irritation or introduce bacteria.
-
Yes. Unlike some laser treatments that carry a risk of hyperpigmentation on darker skin tones, microneedling works safely and effectively across all skin types and complexions. This is one of the reasons I recommend it for clients who have been told that lasers are not a good option for their skin.

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide, which is a polynucleotide compound derived from salmon DNA. When applied during microneedling, it accelerates your skin's natural repair process, provides deep hydration, and stimulates collagen production beyond what standard microneedling achieves alone. It is a newer treatment option that is gaining attention for its healing and skin-quality benefits.
Why Clients Choose Contour Medical Aesthetics & Wellness for Microneedling in St. Catharines
I customize every microneedling treatment based on your specific skin. The needle depth, the speed, the pressure, and the serum I use all vary depending on what area of your face I'm working on and what we're trying to accomplish. Your forehead and your cheeks have different thicknesses and different concerns, so they should not be treated identically.
Having three tiers of microneedling means you are not paying for more than you need, and you are not getting less than you should. If standard microneedling will get you where you want to go, I will tell you that. If your concerns would benefit from PRP or PDRN, I will explain why and let you decide.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I understand skin physiology in a way that goes beyond surface-level aesthetics. I can connect what's happening with your skin to what's happening internally, whether that is hormonal shifts, nutritional gaps, or products that are doing more harm than good. That context matters when we are building a treatment plan, not just doing a one-off session.
Serving St. Catharines, Thorold, Niagara Falls, Welland, Fonthill, Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Grimsby, and the Niagara region.
