Why a Chemical Peel Works When Your Skincare Routine Doesn't
You've tried the serums. You've tried the at-home masks. Your skin still looks dull, or the acne scars still catch the light the wrong way, or the pigmentation from last summer never fully faded.
That's not a skincare routine problem. That's a "the damage is deeper than what topicals can reach" problem.
A chemical peel works by removing damaged outer layers of skin so the smoother, brighter skin underneath can come forward. It's one of the oldest treatments in aesthetics because it genuinely works. The difference is which peel, how deep, and who's controlling the process.
Here's what most people don't realize: there's no single "chemical peel" experience. The range goes from a lunchtime treatment with zero visible peeling to a deeper peel that targets stubborn acne scars and significant sun damage. I offer three, and which one makes sense for you depends on what your skin needs and how much downtime you're willing to commit to.
Is a Chemical Peel Right For You?
Your skin texture changed. Acne scars left behind rough patches or shallow indentations that makeup sits in instead of glides over. A chemical peel for acne scars can smooth what topicals can't reach.
Your complexion lost its clarity. Sun damage, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left dark spots that make your skin tone look uneven. You've been covering it up instead of addressing it.
You want a reset without a big commitment. You're curious about skin treatments but you're not ready for lasers or needles. A gentle skin peel is a low-stakes entry point that lets you see what professional treatments can actually do.
You've done this before and want more. You already know peels work for your skin and you're looking for someone who matches the peel depth to where your skin actually is, not someone who gives every client the same formula.

What Happens During Your Chemical Peel
01. Your skin is cleansed and prepped.
I apply the peel solution in layers, controlling the intensity based on how your skin responds in real time. Some peels are neutralized after a set period, others are left to work on their own.
02. You'll feel warmth or tingling during application.
It's not painful, and I'm monitoring your comfort throughout. The whole session takes 30 to 45 minutes.
03. Before you leave, I walk you through your post-peel skincare.
SPF becomes non-negotiable after a peel because your fresh skin is more sensitive to UV damage. I'll tell you exactly what to use and what to avoid.
What Results Actually Look Like
Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing skin that looks clear, even, and smooth without needing foundation to get there.
That's what a well-matched peel series delivers. Not overnight. Not from a single session. But consistently, over a series of treatments, your skin gets closer to where you want it.
-
Best results come from a series of three to six treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart. Each session builds on the last.
-
Two to four treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. You'll notice improvement after the first peel, but the cumulative effect is where the real change happens.
-
Two to three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Because the peel goes deeper, fewer sessions are needed to see significant results.
Why The Right Chemical Peel Matters More Than Just “Getting a Peel”
Picking the wrong chemical peel strength is how people end up with irritation, prolonged redness, or results that don't match expectations.
I assess your skin type, your concern, your lifestyle, and your tolerance before recommending anything.
If you have a packed work week and can't afford visible peeling, I'm not going to suggest a Jessner's. If you have deep acne scarring and we keep doing gentle peels, you'll spend money without getting where you want to go.
The goal is the right peel for where you are right now.
Three Peels, Three Levels of Commitment
-
This is the "lunchtime peel." It brightens, smooths, and refreshes your skin without any visible peeling afterward. You leave looking like you had a really good facial.
It's ideal if you're a first-timer who wants to see what a professional peel feels like before committing to anything deeper. It's also what I recommend before events when you want your skin to glow without a large recovery window.
Little to no downtime. Mild redness that fades within a few hours. Back to your day immediately.
hat being said, like any cosmetic procedure, ensure at least 1-2 weeks between skin treatments and special events, especially for sensitive skin and acne-prone skin.
-
This is the medium-depth option. It targets pigmentation, acne scars, fine lines, and uneven texture with more intensity than the NoPeel.
You will see peeling, typically starting around day two and lasting through day five. It looks like light flaking, similar to a mild sunburn peel. During those days, your skin is shedding the damaged layer and revealing fresher skin underneath.
More results require more patience. But when the peeling clears and your skin settles, the difference in clarity and smoothness is noticeable.
-
This is the deepest peel I offer. It's for more significant concerns: stubborn acne scars, deep pigmentation, accumulated sun damage that lighter peels can't touch.
Visible peeling lasts five to seven days, and it's more noticeable than the Perfecting Peel. I'm honest about that upfront because I want you to plan for it, not be surprised by it.
The results are the most dramatic of the three. Skin tone evens out, texture smooths significantly, and scars that felt permanent start to soften.
Chemical peels in the Niagara region generally run between $100 and $300 per session with my prices on the lower end of that scale. Light peels with no downtime sit at the lower end. Deeper peels that target scarring, pigmentation, or sun damage cost more. And sometimes, depending which medspa you go to, the prices can be even higher.
Most people are surprised it's that accessible. A single peel costs less than a lot of the skincare products and routines that weren't getting you results anyway.
Peels work best in a series. During your consultation, I'll map out a plan and tell you exactly what it costs before we start anything.
How Much Does A Chemical Peel Cost in Niagara?
Your face is not the place to bargain hunt. But it's also not the place to overpay for a brand name when what actually matters is the person holding the equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Peels
-
It depends on your skin concern and how much downtime you can handle. If you want zero downtime and a gentle refresh, the PCA NoPeel is the starting point. If you're targeting acne scars or pigmentation and can plan for a few days of peeling, the Perfecting or Jessner's will get you further. I assess your skin during your consultation and recommend the best fit.
-
You'll feel warmth or tingling during application, but it's not painful. I monitor your comfort throughout and can adjust the intensity. Most clients describe it as a warm, prickling sensation that fades quickly once the peel is neutralized or removed.
-
The PCA NoPeel is formulated with sensitive skin in mind. I assess your skin's reactivity during consultation and choose accordingly. If your skin is highly reactive, I'd rather start gentle and build up than push too far on the first visit.
-
In the Niagara region, chemical peels typically range from $100 to $300+ per session depending on the peel type and depth. I'll outline a full treatment plan and cost during your consultation so there are no surprises.
-
Lighter peels like the PCA NoPeel can be done every two to four weeks. Medium and deeper peels need four to six weeks between sessions so your skin has time to fully heal and regenerate. I space your treatments based on how your skin responds, not on a fixed calendar.
Why Clients Choose Contour Medical Aesthetics & Wellness for Chemical Peels in St. Catharines
I don't offer one peel and call it a menu. Three options means I can match the treatment to your skin concern, your schedule, and your comfort level. That matching is what separates a peel that works from a peel that wastes your time.
Because I'm a licensed nurse practitioner, I'm also looking at the bigger picture. If your pigmentation is hormonally driven, a peel alone won't solve it. I can connect the dots between your skin, your health, and the right treatment plan because I have the clinical scope to see all of it.
Every peel is done by me personally. I control the layers, I watch your skin's response, and I adjust in the moment. You're not getting a standardized protocol from someone following a script.
Serving St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, and the Niagara region.
